Questions relating to Massage Therapy and Yoga

services

Q.How soon can I practice yoga and/or receive a deep tissue massage after eating a meal??

If you are receiving a deep tissue massage right after a heavy meal, you might experience discomfort, especially if you have visceral work. Also, when attending a yoga class, please do so on an empty stomach. Practicing yoga right after a heavy meal is very uncomfortable. It is wise to wait with practicing yoga for at least three hours after eating. If you plan to receive a therapeutic massage, wait at least two hours after eating.

Q.I’ve been to my physician and he/she says that it is OK for me to go to a yoga class, still, I am afraid that I’ll slow the class down.?

You will not slow the class down, but it might be more fun for you to join a beginner’s class or a yoga class that is listed as a slow-moving class. However, it is important that you always listen to your body regardless how advanced you are, or if you are new to yoga. Listening to your body and its needs is perhaps the most essential things one can do in a yoga practice.

Q.What shall I wear to a yoga class??

Wear loose-fitting work-out clothes you feel comfortable in. During the winter season, you might want to bring warmer clothing to class.

Q.Do I need a yoga mat when showing up for my first yoga class??

Yes, it is a good idea to invest in a yoga mat. You can purchase inexpensive yoga gear at places like TJ Maxx, Big 5 Sporting goods, and at Walmart. Also, a blanket, yoga block, and a yoga belt can be a handy tool as well. But the most important thing is the yoga mat and a yoga blanket.

Q.I have experienced pain for a while now. Shall I go to my massage therapist for them to fix it??

If you experience pain, you need to contact a physician first before you go to your massage therapist. Also for a massage therapist to be able to help you, it is important that they know what is going on with you and why the pain is there in the first place.

Please note:

Yoga and massage therapy is not meant to replace medical diagnosis and/or treatment. If symptoms are severe or persist, you should always consult your physician.
